Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, many of them based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado before settling in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his new home state have encouraged many to move to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be a member. Today, he is seen as the personification of Colorado to people from across the world. In my journeys, you encounter someone on the other continent, a person from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes they say is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads, co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief involvement in a folk group, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff had written the song using Johnny Cash in mind but when Denver was introduced to an earlier version it was clear that the track could become an instant hit. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days before performing the song to crowds that were enthralled on the streets of Washington D.C.
